Lake Cottage Restoration
At first we wished to add a deck to this 1950's lake cottage but discovered structural problems to be solved. The rotten sill and rim joist was replaced with a double glued 2x12, new triple 2x8 glued beams were installed beneath the old 24" on center floor system, new PT 2x6 sill, and various joist hangers and supports throughout. The building was also jacked and leveled.
The old stone piers will be rebuilt and brought up to the new sill height. We will also block in between the stone piers for added strength and to keep the critters and cold out. The new triple 2x8 beams will be supported by the new block wall. Afterwards the structure will be ready to accept a deck and go up a second level in the future if need be.
