Lake Cottage Restoration

    At first we wished to add a deck to this 1950's lake cottage but discovered structural problems to be solved.  The rotten sill and rim joist was replaced with a double glued 2x12, new triple 2x8 glued beams were installed beneath the old 24" on center floor system,new PT 2x6 sill, and various joist hangers and supports throughout. The building was also jacked and leveled.
    The old stone piers will be rebuilt and brought up to the new sill height.  We will also block in between the stone piers for added strength and to keep the critters and cold out.  The new triple 2x8 beams will be supported by the new block wall.  Afterwards the structure will be ready to accept a deck and go up a second level in the future if need be.

  Here's a nice balcony I'm currently building.  Cedar railing will be painted and the decking is ipe.

Attic remodel into movie room

  Currently I'm working on a project with Paul Knudsen Woodworking converting an attic into a usable movie and rec room.  We installed stairs and framed some doghouse dormers for more light.  Round windows will be installed in the dormers.  More pics to come.  Design and layout by Paul Knudsen.

Fireplace Room before and after

     Here we had a dark stained trimmed room with a bare brick fireplace.  The customer wanted to brighten up the room a bit so I paneled the fireplace with some hand planed beaded wide ship lap pine, added a mantel and a door to the beehive oven.  All the stained trim was painted with Benjamin Moore Windham Cream and the walls are a matte Powell Buff.  The results came out great.

Recycled furniture

  I live in a very old house and in my spare time I like to make furniture that I feel fits with the house's character and looks good.  I try to reuse any materials from past jobs that would otherwise end up in the landfill.  Sometimes its old doors, flooring, worn siding, barn boards,etc.  Here's a day bed/couch  that I'm working on for the living room which used a bunch of old doors.  It still needs some finishing details.

Finished Porch Railings

    Here are the finished railings ready for install.  The side view photo shows the slight angled pitch I put on the top rail. This allows the rain and snow to drain off  which will add to the railings longevity.
